Puzzle Worksheets

At our church, they print up children's bulletins every week.  They usually have little word games or puzzles, with coded messages.  Our kids love them.  But, the codes they use are usually random collections of symbols.

We realized that if the coded message were in a real alphabet, the kids would be learning on four different levels as they did the puzzles:

  1. Practicing substitution ciphers.
  2. Learning Morse Code, or the manual alphabet.
  3. Practicing their handwriting.
  4. Concentrating on the text of the message, which is typically a Bible verse.

Not bad for a game!

These sample worksheets are in Microsoft Word format.  You will need to download the symbol fonts before they will display properly.

The Handsign-TT font for the manual alphabet can be found here.

The Morse Code font can be found here.
