One of the themes that comes up over and over with home schooling is how
"eccentric" or "high strung" gifted kids can be. From itchy
clothing tags, to shyness, to perfectionism, and on down the list.
"Helpful" people will even suggest that you get your kids evaluated
for ADD or other disorders.
A psychologist we know has warned us that giftedness itself is increasingly
being defined as a disorder. I find that rather alarming, don't you?
Here is an article I found very valuable. Perhaps it will be helpful to some of
you. It explains how giftedness can be mistaken for ADHD, Oppositional Defiant
Disorder, Bi-Polar and other Mood Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and
especially Asperger's Disorder (a kind of autism). It does not discuss Sensory
Integration Disorder,
which is too bad, because that is a fad in our area.
